New Year Home Maintenance Tips
As the New Year begins, it’s a great time to check off some maintenance items around your home that you may not normally think to do. Doing these regular check-ins with your systems in and around your home will not only help keep your home in tip top shape, but you won’t have to worry about all of it in your day to day living throughout the year. Sometimes having a signal, like the start of the new year, helps me to remember to keep up with all of it! I hope it helps you, too!
Maintaining your HVAC and always being on top of changing your filters really truly prolongs the life of your system and in turn your home.
Checking your crawl space for leaks is something I would choose to quickly do on a day when the weather gives us a little bit of warmth. It’s a quick thing you can do now to make sure the foundations of your home are holding up in the coldness of winter! The same is true for jumping up on your roof and eyeballing your gutters on a warmer day. It will always be worth it to see if there is any damage from recent storms now verses once Spring comes around.
Take a minute to head around your house vacuuming all the spaces that you may not think about. Your filters, exhaust fans, refrigerator and freezer coils, dryer lint trap and vent. As we sit inside throughout the winter we want to make sure we are breathing in air that is as clean as we can make it for our own health. All of these spots are places I never think of, but know I need to and it takes ten minutes tops!
Peace of mind is a top priority when owning a home because there is so much to think about and do. Hopefully, this list helps make it seem less overwhelming and more actionable! Keep that investment you made in the best shape you can, for the people you love living in it and for your future!
