May Weekend Round Up SPRING EDITION

The weather has been, and will continue to be, incredible this spring in The Triangle. Spring brings such beauty to our state with everything bright green and blooming. Temperatures in the 80s before the heat including humidity hits us. This is our time to get outside as much as we possibly can! So with that in mind, I’m focusing on the wonderful opportunities we have in our area to do that!

William B Umstead is a gorgeous hidden gem in our region that is a cherished retreat to many locals. It’s nestled right in the middle of Raleigh, Durham and Cary. This state park is visited often for it’s 34.5 miles of trails for walking, running, hiking and biking. It has spots for camping and picnicking. Manmade lakes for fishing, kayaking, paddling and boating! AND don’t worry if you don’t own a boat, there are boat rentals available, too! William B Umstead literally has everything you need to enjoy a day in the beautiful spring sunshine, the options are, quite literally, endless!

Another true hidden gem in our area that locals have been loving is the new Harris Lake County Park. It is the newest park in Wake County and located just south of Raleigh in New Hill. It is a 680-acre park located on Shearon Harris Reservoir. This park has fishing, trails, playgrounds, kayaking, shelter rentals, boating, disc golf and volleyball. This park is truly designed to welcome all who would like to enjoy it including those who may have different physical abilities. I love how Wake County has dove into the history of this outdoor space and truly made sure all are included.

Midtown Square Spring Festival is usually held at the end of April, but was rescheduled this year to the first week in June due to weather. It is held at Bond Brothers Beer Company in Cary from 12pm to 10pm. It is an absolutely great event that brings many people in and outside of the town of Cary together for a day of live music, local food trucks and local beer. It is a free event to attend, but you do need drink tickets if you want to try their beer.

SPRING BONUS for blog readers! Get ready for one amazing season at Dorothea Dix Parkwhen their sunflowers bloom! Usually they hit their peak, depending on weather, at the end of June or very beginning of July. This is a super special time for us in The Triangle to feel like we are in the middle of Kansas! They are gorgeous each year I go and it really helps support the essential pollinators of our environment! Make plans to GO! SOON!

With more than 200 parks in Raleigh including nature preserves, lakes, dog parks and greenway trails there is always somewhere to explore! A couple of other outdoor spaces in our area that I have highlighted before on our Instagram account: @livelovethetriangle:

  • Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve

  • Robertson Millpond Preserve

  • Raleigh Rose Garden

Please let me know if you decide to take your friends or family out exploring this spring, I want to know what your favorite spot is! It could be a new hidden gem on our list!
