January Weekend Roundup
With the start of a new year comes new opportunities to build more community around you… There are so many fun experiences in The Triangle to do just that!
Illuminate Art Walk is definitely an experience you want to hit with your friends or family now that the busy-ness of the holiday season is over. It’s a large-scale interactive installation of light based sculptures and projection art. Each piece fills beautiful Downtown Raleigh with creative art for all ages to enjoy. It’s the perfect experience to add onto the end of a fun dinner with friends or a special family gathering. I particularly love Sonic Runway, which is an endless amount of spheres you can walk through. It gives the illusion of being in a different world! It’s available through January 14th on Fayetteville Street.
Calling all Aretha Franklin fans!! This is another event in the Triangle you don’t want to miss! Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts is presenting a tribute to the legend on January 20-21st. The performance is featuring Broadway powerhouse Capathia Jenkins and Grammy-nominated R&B singer Ryan Shaw. This show looks to me like it’ll bring the house down in vocals and really pay homage to Aretha showcasing all that she did for every music genre. Tickets can be found at Dukeenergycenterraleigh.com. As I’m sitting here writing, I am totally singing her songs in my head, there is no way you can’t leave this performance without belting out your own Aretha favorites!
Another QUEEN coming to The Triangle this month! Adele Givens has been unofficially named the Queen of Comedy and she’s absolutely ready to make you laugh at Raleigh Improv which is located in Cary. She has fans from all over including many famous celebrities who support her work. She’s been on HBO Comedy Hour and Comedy Central. So, if you haven’t been to an Improv show, get your tickets for Adele Givens January 27th – 29th. I’m sure tickets will go quickly!
One of my favorite weeks of the entire year comes in January because I LOVE food and a great DEAL! It’s restaurant week January 23rd-29th! During this seven day event, many of The Triangle’s top restaurants participate in offering three-course menu options at a fixed price. Pricing includes $15 for a three course lunch and between $25-$50 for a dinner. It’s price per person and gives visitors and locals a great chance at trying out new cuisine or running to get their tried and true favorites! No reservations or tickets are required, just pick one of the participating eateries and go! There are so many restaurants included in the list, from Indian to Italian to Sushi and Steak, whatever your heart desires!
I hope you enjoy a month of fun events here in the community that I love so much! There is always something going on, so if you happen to go to one of the events I listed, or any other event in The Triangle, I’d love to hear about your experience! I’m always adding to my list of things I want to do here!
