Things to Do in Wake Forest

An aerial picture of Wake Forest

Wake Forest is a suburb here in the Triangle, just north of Raleigh, with a population of about 50,000. Wake Forest is one of the best places to live in North Carolina with so many things to see and do! With Wake Forest College starting here, the school played a significant role bringing development and growth to this sweet town and is the reason we get to enjoy what the town is today. However, now Wake Forest University is located in Winston-Salem, but this charming town is still definitely worth the stop!

Located in Winston-Salem

Wake Forest has a beautiful downtown area known as the Historic District which offers a variety of shops, restaurants and historic buildings including the Wake Forest Historical Museum. Here you can tour the historic Calvin Jones House, visit the gardens and learn the history of Wake Forest College I mentioned above! The museum is open Tuesday through Friday starting at 9am and is free! The town truly makes efforts to preserve the historical character of homes and buildings, it is beautiful to see!

Wake Forest also offers some of the best food here in the Triangle! One of my favorite stops is Farm Table. This neighborhood kitchen and bar takes a seasonal approach to their menu that I love so much. Not only are they locally owned, but they also use local ingredients from growers here in the surrounding areas. They have vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options always! Another yummy spot is Gonza Tacos y Tequila winning the prestige of the Triangle’s number one taco stop. Their brick and mortar located in Wake Forest is only one of four Triangle locations and they have a food truck, too! They have Colombian-Mexican inspired cuisine and hand crafted cocktails, tequila and spirits. If you love Taco Tuesday like I do, you have to give Gonza tacos a try!

Wake Forest also offers a range of recreational opportunities with several green spaces and parks. E. Carroll Joyner Park has walking trails, picnic areas and a performance amphitheater. The park hosts lots of different events throughout the year, including Concerts in the Park coming up this month! For the first two Sundays in September, come enjoy some live music with the community starting at 5:30pm.

The town’s proximity to Raleigh really allows residents to enjoy the small town feel of Wake Forest and have easy access to the urban amenities and cultural offerings of the big city. It is still located in highly sought after Wake County Public School system, as well! Overall, Wake Forest has a strong sense of community and a high quality of life for it’s residents. It serves as a desirable place to live for families, professionals and retirees, too! Let me know if you are interested in checking out houses in this beautiful suburb!
